March 16 CWC 1st RoundWest Indies vs Pakistan:
I still can't believe it, The West Indies pulled of a win against Pakistan in the Opening match of the World Cup. Some may say that Pakistan were at a disadvantage without their frontline bowlers M. Asif and S. Akhtar, but in the end a win is a win and the West Indies must be commended for their performance.
I expected better from Mo Yo, Younis Khan and Inzi, what can I say, our bowlers didn't let us down and got them out just when they seemed to have been getting their stride.
D.R. Smith played exceptionally well with both the bat and ball, commendable batting also by Sarwan, Lara and Samuels. It was soo much fun being their to see the game unfold before my very eyes. I really enjoyed every minute of the day. Hope to see my guys carry on and lift the trophy at the end of the World Cup.
India vs Bangladesh:
Unbelievably, Bangladesh beat the Indians, and convincingly so 5 wickets. Oh what an upset that was. The only resistance Indians put up was the partnership between Yuvraj and Ganguly, each scoring 47 and 66 respectively.
With 191 on the board it, wouldn't seem impossible to bowl out Bangladesh under that. Bangladesh reached their target losing only 5 wickets and 3 of their players (Tamim Iqbal, Musfiqur Rahim and Saqil Al-Hasan) scoring half ceturies.
Big up to the Tigers! They did well.
Pakistan vs Ireland:
What can I say, everything went right the Irish cricket team. Like Osman Samiuddin says "They outplayed Pakistan with bat, ball, mind, body, soul and all else that goes into the winning of cricket matches." All credit to them they really did their people well; and what a huge support they had at Sabina Park. Irish fans came from far and wide to see they're players do them well and they got just that.
Pakistan started off poorly, and that seemed to have set the trend right throughout their innings, with their top scorer, Akmal, managing to get only 27 runs. Mo Yo is obviously having a bad season; Inzi and Younis were also a huge dissappointment. These three men are all veterans and should have done far better that what took place yesterday.
N.J O'Brien's 72 lead the way to what may seem a Second Round spot, who knows huh? Congrats to them.
The Pakistanis have to now go back to the drawing board. With this early exit from the World Cup, they have more that a loss to face up to, everything and everyone will now come down on them. Best of luck to them!
February 24 World Cup 2007 Count DownJust a few more days before the start of the most perstigious event in Cricket, The World Cup. All eyes will be focused here in the Caribbean to see the games unfold.
Starting off here in Jamaica will be the Opening Ceremony and closes off with the final in Barbados, this WC promises to be one of the most memorable ones.
Well, I hope the West Indies can really make us proud of them by taking home the Title being the first team ever to win the competition on Home soil. The Carib Beer Series and the KFC cup seem to be good practice for them leading into the WC.
Pakistan has a bit of a hiccup with everyone focusing on their doping issues, their main concern being Mohammad Asif and Shoib Akhtar. The exclustion of Shahid Afridi in their opening match is a slight dissappointment, nevertheless, they're still favourites to win despite their line-up.
Little good news with the Aussies, they now have Gilchrist for their opening match but their biggest dissappointment the exclusion of their fast bowler Brett Lee.
Micheal Vaughan is on track for the English; fitness seem fair with the team generally.
New Zealand most definately has a humungust Boost entering the competition with their series win over the Aussies. Wow, that performance by theim was quite outstanding. Congrats to them.
The Proteas (South Africans) are now the World # !. Obviously they've been doing well to get there. They're win over the Indians lifted them giving them a psycological advantage on top.
Their loss against the Proteas won't be any deterrent in proving themselves. One of their strike bowlers, Irfan Pathan needs to get himself in order by this Sunday.
Something tells me that there will be new crowned champions this time around, despite the strenght of the mighty Aussies.
- November 20 West Indies vs PakistanAfter a terrble performace in the 1st Test, the West Indies have seemed to have got some sense kicked into their heads for the 2nd Test. Not only have they bowled out Pak for under 350 but they managed to miraculously reach over 100 runs without losing 1 wicket! Quite astonishing!
Ofcoarse they are my team, but West Indian fans are simply "fed up" of losing very very easily. We are now not only losing the matches but losing them in 3 1/2 - 4 days; very convincingly!
With a batting line up that consists of C. Gayle, B. C. Lara and Shiv. Chanderpaul etc etc, we should be more that dominating our matches. These 3 players HAVE the experience of playing test cricket and have the competence of performing much more than they are now.
Well ... I'm not counting my eggs just yet, because it is way too early to expect a win ... don't you agree?
-Bintfarouk October 27 What Happened Pakistan??What a terrible performance. After such a brilliant start of getting the South Africans for 42/5, South Africa got to 213 runs.......so disappointing. Whats worse is that they (Pakistan) were bowled out for 89 runs, a really low score for such an amazing team. I think im going to have a major headache. Big up mi West Indies! Made it to yet another semi-final! Im anticipating another Caribbean VICTORY.
August 25 This page needs to be updatedOk everyone, this page needs to be UPDATED and will be done so in due time. Later Pakistan board under heavy criticismOsman Samiuddin August 24, 2006
Blame for what happened at The Oval and its aftermath can - and has been - liberally flung in several directions. Darrell Hair's eventual and Inzamam-ul-Haq's initial obstinacy, the ICC match referee Mike Procter's haphazard communication skills and the Pakistan Cricket Board's less than firm handling of the crisis. As more information from Sunday dribbles through, the last named in particular are being asked increasingly difficult questions in Pakistan and for them, something is about to hit the fan. Inzamam can still count on public support, given the inclusive nature of his protest (he was defending the country's honour), but it is looking difficult for his board to expect the same. Ex-officials and players are rarely happy with successors but there appears genuine cause for grief. As a fiasco unfolded on Sunday, Shaharyar Khan, chairman PCB, told Sky TV that his team's protest was to last "a few minutes". Immediately a contradiction was set in place; "a few minutes" was considerably more and doubts appeared about the team's intent. Khan giving a statement was questionable enough (not more though than him appearing in a Pepsi commercial last year), given that the team's manager Zaheer Abbas was hired for just this sort of situation (Journalist Khalid H. Khan, in Dawn asked why Zaheer Abbas was seen doing little more than chatting on his mobile phone, walking in and out of the dressing-room). The next day, the PCB only shook up more dust. They were wrong in claiming that the ball was roughed up because Kevin Pietersen was spanking sixes - those came after the ball was changed. They were ambiguous in their stance on Hair; "he was a good umpire" but their team had problems with his attitude. They were contradictory in their explanation of what happened in those crucial minutes after tea and before the game was forfeited. The fate of the ODIs wasn't decided though their captain and coach were already publicly threatening cancellation. As Inzamam's hearing is now postponed, they still can't find one voice through which to speak - do they want hearings postponed or do they not?
Arif Abbasi, chairman of the PCB through the ball tampering and match-fixing crises of the '90s and no mincer of words was appalled by the management's lack of knowledge through the events. "It was a shambles. No one appears to have known the laws regarding forfeiture as the crisis was occurring. The manager Zaheer Abbas went missing, the chairman was making comments about things he didn't know and there was no communication at all between Pakistan and the umpires. As a study in crisis-management, it was as poor as it gets. Since then, it appears as if they haven't done their homework on anything." Others have been similarly scathing. Aaqib Javed was in the 1992 side in England, during which a ball was also changed, with considerably less hoopla. "It's not the first time it has happened. In 1992 while we were playing, our manager Intikhab Alam told us not to worry, he would handle everything while we should just play on. Afterwards, he sent a letter protesting. Where was the manager now and did anyone know the rules? Let's not forget though that Hair was correct in all the actions he took and he should be lauded for those decisions." Javed also raised concerns that Shaharyar hadn't been firm enough, in his capacity as chairman, with the players or match officials. "One player in the dressing-room told me that all decisions were being taken by Inzamam about the protest. Shaharyar's very nature is of compromise, once a diplomat, always a diplomat. Not being clear and firm on issues is natural. When they convinced Inzamam to come out, it actually made Pakistan and Inzi look more foolish." That observation wasn't a stray one; in an article for The News, columnist Shahed Sadullah questioned the PCB's decision, together with Mike Procter, to convince the team to return. The gesture was humiliating as well as pointless, "totally compromising Pakistan's stand. You either protest or you do not; you cannot hedge your bet both ways. That takes away the moral high ground completely and that is what the PCB's actions have done."
One well-placed source close to the board painted a none too flattering picture: "They were like a whole group of Inspector Clouseaus, all bumbling through without knowing quite what they were doing, without knowing the law, making one statement after another, each one contradicting the last." The list could go on; both Imran Khan and Javed Miandad have also registered their concerns over the board's handling. But as the source acknowledged, "it's been such a big cock-up that questions will most definitely be asked when they get back." For one, the Senate is likely to pounce. Since the 2004 loss at home to India, the standing committee for sports has hounded the board - through wins, losses, draws - over their finances, the lack of a constitution (the board has operated ad-hoc since 1999) and any other topical controversy. This is heaven-sent. The tour is drawing to a close but the PCB's headaches aren't. In fact, on return, they are likely to turn into a migraine. Osman Samiuddin is Pakistan editor of Cricinfo Wasim Raja dies playing cricketCricinfo staff August 23, 2006
"Wasim had a big heart attack on the field," a Surrey spokesman told Cricinfo. "He felt dizzy, and mentioned this to the slips, saying that he felt he had to go off. He was carried off but then collapsed on the boundary." Wasim, the brother of Rameez Raja, was a bearded left-hand middle-order batsman, whereas Rameez was a clean-shaven right-hand opener. Wasim could bowl, too; brisk, flat top-spinners rather than legbreaks, pioneering the style followed by Anil Kumble and Shahid Afridi. Wasim also had one outstanding series when he proved himself the most effective of some very fine Pakistan batsmen in the West Indies in 1976-77. He might have made a good Pakistan captain in a rather old-fashioned amateur swashbuckling fashion, but coming from the country's elite, studying in Durham and marrying an Englishwoman, he tended to be above the political battle. This, however, stood him in good stead in later life, when he was appointed as one of the ICC's elite panel of match referees. "It is a very sad and heart-breaking news. As a teenager, I used to go and watch all the games in which Wasim Raja used to play," former captain Wasim Akram said. "He was a crowd favorite not only because of his hard-hitting abilities but because he was a charismatic character. He was an idol of most of the youngsters in the 70s and 80s." "We grew together and played our cricket not only as team-mates but also as opponents," said Javed Miandad. "He was not only a true sportsman but a thorough gentleman. We have been involved in some of the best matches. It is sad to lose a great cricketer, a good sportsman and a true ambassador of the country." Wasim played 57 Tests between 1973 and 1985, scoring 2821 runs at 36.16 with four hundreds, the best of which was 125. He also took 51 wickets at 35.80 with a best of 4 for 50. Both his career-best performances came against India at Jalandhar in 1983-84. He also played 54 ODIs. He was subsequently a match referee in 15 Tests, the last of which was in 2003-04. April 29 Tour of the Caribbean [vs Zimbabwe]Hi all!
Well, let me just start by saying, congratulations to "Sir" Brian Charles Lara on earning the captaincy for the third time in his career. I guess he was the only man for the job, seeing the young team that we have, I don't think he even had competition after Shiv decided to call it quits. Hope he has a successful reign as leader of the West Indies this time around.
The team managed to pull of a "boring" win today. At one point I thought that the tourists [Zimbabwe] had a chance after they were getting quick and early wickets. Sad to say, I wouldn't be surprised if the victory went the other way. Losing has been the talk of our cricket.
I just hope that they can bring themselves together for the bigger series ahead, India, can't wait till then.

-Bintfarouk April 19 DLF CUPHey y'all!
Well as we all know, the DLF Cup is now on between teams Indian and Pakistan. Pakistan has already won the first of tow matches and the second is now on. These matches are put on in aid of the Quake victims of South Asia. Nice to know that Cricket is "playing" its part in the assistance of such a disaster that led to the destruction of so many lives.
India seem to be on their way to victory of the 2nd match; but of course I expect Pak to come back strong even with the loss of Afridi for a mere 0.
-Bintfarouk April 10 Bangladesh vs AustraliaWho would have thought??
Bangladesh actually scored in excess of 400 runs against the Mighty Aussies! Now I can see why they were so excited for the arrival of the tourists.
They managed to pile up these runs without the help of their frontline batsman Muhammad Ashraful, who always seem to dig them out of trouble in their time of need [amazing huh?].
Then to have taken 6 wickets before the Aussies could make it to tripple figures, had me startled when I got up to see the score. There is also the possibility of them ... Dare I say it ... forcing a "Follow on". So many teams in the past haven't even dreamt of accomplishing this in years ... years ! ! !
After the whitewash that the Aussies attained last week, one would think that they would be all pumped up for any series to come ... hmmm, little did they to know.
Its all too much for me to digest.
[Even if Bangla do lose this match, Hats off to them for makin a superb performace against the World # 1's]. GO TIGERS ! ! !
Lets see the outcome over the next few days.

The final and decisive one day mach was played between South Africa and Australia today. WHAT A MATCH IT WAS!!!
The world record was hit by Australia, a total of 434/4. Who would have imagined South Africa would come in and win?!?!!.
Here’s how it was: I missed australia’s innings, but who knows, if I had seen it, maybe I would have given up all hope for S.A. to win… My brother and sister woke me quickly after they saw the score saying that an electrifying game was onnn… who could miss that?? None of us even dared to leave the television room. Sixes and Fours were flying like craaazzzy. The game was down to the wire. The captain of S.A.Greaeme Smith, came on the field, knowing in his mind he had the victory …. And people…….he did!! He scored 90 runs just off 55 balls. Then came in Hershelle Gibbs with 175 off just 111 balls. Wickets went, but South Africa was in the game. Down to the wire, Mark Boucher hit the winning boundary with one ball to spear in the match. The total was 438/9. for mor info, check out cricinfo... the best cricket site: http://usa.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/2005-06/AUS_IN_RSA/SCORECARDS/AUS_RSA_ODI5_12MAR2006.html
What a game it was…… I am still in exasperation; Nothing can bring me down today or the rest of the week.
I saw the world record in cricket, and I will never forget it …. Never.
